From 12 to 5 p.m., we will celebrate local food, farmers, and producers with live music from local musicians, vendors, CSA sign ups, samples, raffles, demonstrations, food education, and more! Admission is free, but we will be collecting healthy, nonperishable food donations for area food pantries.

Lucy Jo’s Coffee Roasters

Our featured product this month is coffee from Lucy Jo’s Coffee Roasters!

Coffee lovers will have a lot to love at the Glens Falls Food Co-Op, thanks to this micro-roastery offering single-origin coffees and their own unique blends. All are Certified Organic, with something for just about everyone.

Single origin coffees:

  • Sumatra – full-bodied, low-acid dark roast with a syrupy mouthfeel and earthy flavor, with smoky dark chocolate undertones
  • Peru – smooth lower-acid medium roast with mild caramel sweetness and a dry cocoa undertone
  • Guatemala – silky smooth medium roast with dry cocoa notes and hints of orange (Rainforest Alliance Certified)
  • Bali – fragrant medium dark roast with mellow earthy undertones and a fruity overlay (Rainforest Alliance Certified)

Blends:

  • Brain Storm Blend – smooth, lower-acid medium dark roast that’s rich and creamy.
  • Kick Pow Punch Blend – smooth medium dark roast with a nutty, chocolate roast flavor and a zingy finish
  • Brink Blend – rich and flavorful dark roast with bold taste and an oily mouthfeel
  • Bounce Ethiopian Blend – vibrant and bright medium dark roast with hints of apricot and a rich chocolate overtone
  • Happy Belly Low Acid Blend – smooth and creamy, low-acid medium dark roast with a sweet and earthy flavor and a hint of spice
  • Battenkill Breakfast Blend – smooth and crisp medium roast with a sweet, nutty undertone

Water process decaf options include Happy Belly Decaf and Decadent Decaf, a smooth and creamy medium roast.

There are three ways to get your Lucy Jo’s fix here at the Co-Op: bulk whole bean coffee, pre-ground bags, and now coffee by the cup.

Buying to brew at home? Don’t forget your Battenkill half & half and bulk sugar.

Grabbing a cup to go? Try a Dickinson’s Delights sandwich or one of our bakery items.

Blueberry Oatmeal with Flax

Blueberry Oatmeal w/ Flax for 1
Monica Salafia, Dietetic Intern

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 Blueberry herbal tea bag to steep in the water
  • ½ cup dry old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 Tbsp. Flax Meal
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • Blueberries for garnish

Procedure:

  • Pour 1 cup of hot water into a bowl (or mug).
  • Place blueberry herbal tea bag in the bowl and allow enough time for tea to infuse the water (about 1 minute). Remove before adding in dry oats.  
    Add in ½ cup of dry oats and stir gently.
  • Add in 1 tsp. cinnamon and stir.
  • Add in flax meal, blueberries… ENJOY!

No time to make this in the morning? Make it at work with a 5-cup coffee maker:

Equipment: 1 5-Cup Coffee Maker, 1 bowl, mug, or to-go container, Spoon

Ingredients:  Hot Water + Tea Bag (or Lucy Joe’s Coffee) + Oats + Extras

  • Pour Water into Coffee maker as if you were making coffee. Turn on coffee maker and place a tea bag into the coffee pot. Measure ½ cup dry oats into a bowl.
  • Pour the tea into the container with the dry oats and briefly stir so contents are evenly mixed.
  • Allow enough time for oats to undergo gelatinization (absorbing the water converting the starches into gelatinous compounds). When they appear larger and swollen you are ready to go!
  • Studies have shown light to moderate caffeine consumption increases focus and concentration, but too much can over do it. Five hundred milligrams or fewer of caffeine each day is the recommended limit to get its benefits without the jitters.

Our New Location!

We are grateful to Mike Kaidas for his support and will be opening at the Empire Theater on South Street soon! Stay tuned for our open date. We launch our membership drive in a few weeks.

Moving to Glens Falls!

We are currently working on a move to Glens Falls! We have closed our Gansevoort location and owe many thanks to Rock Hill Bakehouse owner Matt Funiciello for providing us with a rent-free incubator space to get this concept started. Stay tuned for news on our new location!
